I speak about the life of the 19th century woman Sarah Winnemucca, a Paiute Indian whom I have come to respect very much. Throughout her life she courageously tried to save her people from the onslaught of the white settlers, who, with the help of the U.S. government, systematically destroyed their lives and lands. Sarah Winnemucca, who lived from 1844 to 1891, was named "Thocmetony," Shellflower, and was the daughter of Chief Winnemucca II of the Paiutes of Western Nevada....
